: Tim Murphy
Tim, a founding member of Regenesis Collaborative Development Group, Inc., has almost 20 years experience in whole system site assessment and environmental planning. He has been a pioneer in permaculture education and design in the US. He specializes in integrated, regenerative design for large-scale projects and is known internationally in the Permaculture and green building communities for his site assessment skills.
Mr. Murphy studied for a number of years under Australian ecologist and environmental designer Bill Mollison, who created Permaculture as an interdisciplinary approach to land use and community development. In recent years he has accentuated that understanding through the exploration of several other disciplines of systems thinking and incorporated those perspectives into his process.
In 1986, Murphy founded the Sonoran Permaculture Association, which became Permaculture Drylands Institute. He has articulated a systems based, wholistic approach to assessment of place and ecological design called “patterning” which is unique to permaculture. Mr. Murphy developed basic and advanced permaculture design courses as an adjunct faculty member in the Prescott College Environmental Studies Program, 1990-97) and as a senior instructor with the Permaculture Drylands Institute (1987-99). He worked as a freelance environmental consultant from 1986 through 1996 doing business as Tim Murphy Design. For the last nine years he has worked and taught exclusively through The Regenesis Group and its various collaborative partners.
